Eligibility & Services

Everyone Deserves
a Place to Call Home

We serve individuals and families across all situations of housing vulnerability in Peel Region — from people experiencing unsheltered homelessness to those at imminent risk of losing housing.

Who Is Eligible

The Populations
We Serve

Royal Furniture Bank serves individuals and families in the following situations. Access is through an agency referral — ask your shelter, housing worker, or support worker to refer you.

People Experiencing Unsheltered Homelessness

People who lack housing and are not accessing emergency shelters. In most cases, they are staying in places not fit for human habitation.

Living in public spaces — parks, sidewalks, doorways
Residing in vehicles, garages, or makeshift shelters
Occupying vacant buildings without consent or contract
Living in tents, shacks, or other temporary structures

People Accessing Emergency Shelter

Individuals who, because they cannot secure permanent housing, are accessing shelter and system supports provided at no or minimal cost.

Emergency overnight shelters for people experiencing homelessness
Shelters for people affected by domestic violence
Emergency accommodations due to fire or natural disaster

Individuals in Provisional Accommodations

People who are technically homeless, accessing accommodation with no prospect of permanence. They need stable housing and the items to make it livable.

Transitional or interim housing programs
Couch-surfing or temporarily staying with others
Short-term rentals — motels, hostels, rooming houses
Institutional care without permanent housing arrangements

Individuals at Imminent Risk of Homelessness

Housing will end within two months; no subsequent residence has been identified; and the person is at immediate risk of moving into a place not fit for habitation.

Households facing eviction or lease termination
Sudden unemployment with few prospects
Existing housing supports being discontinued
Division of household due to separation or family conflict
