Why Peel Needed
This Now

Peel Region faces one of the fastest-growing homelessness challenges in Ontario. Rising housing costs, limited affordable units, and increasing evictions have pushed more residents into shelters, motels, and provisional accommodations.

No Dedicated Furniture Bank in Peel

Before Royal Furniture Bank, Peel Region had no service specifically dedicated to furnishing homes for people exiting homelessness.

Clients Sleeping on Floors

Front-line workers consistently report clients moving into empty units and sleeping on floors — directly increasing the risk of returning to homelessness.

Financial Strain Leads to Housing Loss

The cost of furnishing a home from scratch is overwhelming for newly housed individuals on limited incomes — often leading to debt, instability, and housing loss.

"Many residents move into empty units, which increases financial strain, affects mental well-being, and can contribute to housing instability."
Long-Term Viability

Built to Last
Beyond One Grant

The Royal Furniture Bank is designed to continue operating long after the initial funding period ends. Our sustainability plan is built on multiple pillars.

Community Donations

Ongoing donations of gently used furniture and household items from community members, businesses, faith organizations, and corporate partners keep operating costs low.

Corporate Partnerships

We actively pursue corporate sponsorships and in-kind contributions from local businesses to support warehouse operations, delivery logistics, and staffing costs.

Provincial & Government Funding

We pursue provincial support, community investment programs, and government funding streams to diversify our revenue and ensure long-term operational capacity.

Building Community Partnerships

We are actively seeking partnerships with shelters, housing agencies, community organizations, and faith groups across Peel Region to expand our referral network.

Community Fundraising

Annual fundraising campaigns, community events, and donor engagement programs generate unrestricted revenue to support core operations and service delivery.

Low-Cost Model

Our model — built primarily on donated goods and volunteer involvement — has inherently low operating costs, making us resilient to funding fluctuations.

Data & Transparency

How We Measure
Success

We are committed to tracking and sharing outcomes with Peel Region's Coordinated Access System and all stakeholders.

Community Belonging

We believe housing stability leads to deeper community participation. When families have a proper home, children attend school more consistently, parents pursue employment, and households become rooted members of the Peel community.

Dignity & Wellbeing

The psychological impact of a furnished home cannot be overstated. Moving from a shelter or empty unit into a proper, comfortable living space restores a sense of self-worth, safety, and hope — the emotional foundation that makes everything else possible.

Funded By Peel Region

Royal Furniture Bank is proudly funded through Peel Region's Reaching Home initiative, supporting individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness across Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon.
